Not sure they had a proper "producer" role but most matches were talked and worked by the wrestlers and could get input from others. IIRC in Kohei Wada's (AJPW legendary referee) book he'd talk about Misawa, Kawada and the others going into great details for some spots trying to do callbacks to prior matches.
