If he was staying in the slot I would agree but hes not going to be making those same plays on the outside

Plus we can save 18 mill moving on now

its time

they won’t do it though

Decosta play it too safe as a GM and that’s why we can’t get over the hump
What’s the plan to replace his production?

Marlon has been a all pro 2 seasons in his career and both of those years he mainly played the slot

He was never anything more than average playing outside and the last few years he’s been ass

Yall really want to keep Marlon with a 25 mill cap hit to play outside?

that just doesn’t make sense to me

in 2023 Kyle was a DPOY candidate playing the slot…hes better than Marlon at that position

They only moved him to FS out of necessity this season

He’s gonna be back playing the slot next season and Marlon will be back outside

I think alot of yall forgetting how much he was getting cooked on the outside

remember the game winner on Marlon in the Raiders game? the game winner vs the Steelers when Pickens cooked him? the countless 3rd down conversions caught on him?

thats what 2025 Marlon is going to look like if we bring him back

To me getting rid of Marlon is a no brainer

You have a guy already on the roster thats better at playing the slot plus a slot CB having a 25 mill cap hit is ridiculous

looking at the free agent CBs its kinda an ass year for CBs

DJ Reed probably the guy I'd go with if they choose to sign a CB

for FS Javon Holland and Andre Cisco the only 2 guys I'd consider

Holland gonna cost alot of money though

I think im done spending big money on the secondary plus Kyle about to get paid

drafting a FS and signing a guy like Reed to compete with Tampa and Armor-Davis for CB2 might be the best strategy for the secondary

I’m optimistic about Wiggins growth at corner. A safety and a coverage linebacker who can generate turnovers are where I think they need to look. I know we’re talking about outside linebacker in here lately but they finished with 50+ sacks on the year so it’s not like they’re in bad shape for the pass rush. It isn’t just the picks where Humphrey had 6 of the 12 total picks they had on the year. The defense only forced 12 fumbles and recovered just 4 of them.

Do we try to get clowney or Judon back for edge rush? @STAN JONES @mr heyzel @xXMASHERXx @BillBanneker @Mantis Toboggan M.D.
I would draft a couple and if we could bring one of them back on a cheap contract, I wouldn't mind. I would be signing them with the understanding that they really are only there to help teach the younger guys. Either way, we need to do something about our front. Even though we had a decent number of sacks, none of the guys we have right now feel like play makers.

As far as Marlon goes, I don't think we should move on from him. Call me foolish/sentimental but I feel like he's earned the right to be the one to decide if/when it's time to move on.

None of the front 7’s pass rushers are a JJ Watt or LT type game changer but they get the quarterback plenty. This squad had 50+ sacks and they schemed their way to sacks very well. Had a 12.5 sack guy, a 10 sack guy, a 6.5 sack guy, and even got 5 sacks from the secondary. Some big hitters at linebacker or safety who can knock the ball loose would go a long way.

Yeah I like Wiggins alot

I think he’s gonna great as CB1

just need ot find someone solid for the other CB spot

As far as the front 7 goes they get alot of sack because of the scheme but we don’t have any difference makers in the front 7

Kyle Hamilton,Travis Jones, and Wiggins are the only guys on defense I think are worth keeping longterm

the rest of them nikkas can go

To address the turnover issue. I think the defense is so focused on doing their job and not gambling, they've been coached to not create turnovers. They aren't coached to do their job and cause turnovers. The coaches might be discouraging the players from gambling on turnovers. Might explain why Marlon stopped punching the ball out after having tremendous success doing it that one year. They probably showed him a video of all his missed tackles and extra yardage given up or something when he could've tackled the guy. Alot of Peters interceptions where him baiting the QB...Ed Reed baited alot of QBs too, different era I know, but you have to have some deception and the ability to gamble when getting turnovers unless you're playing against a dumbass QB or a dude that's afraid to throw it because they're "seeing ghost."

As far as the draft, depending on if Ronnie comes back and how the draft falls to them, I think they should target an Olineman, one of the safeties from Norte Dame or a WR in the 1st. Maybe even trade a few of those 11 picks to move up because the draft is not deep at any of their positions of need. Plus, there aren't 11 positions they need to fill on the roster, so all those draft picks are not making the team. In the 2nd round, I'd like to see them draft Zy Alexander the CB from LSU; he's a ball hawking play maker, but has some injury history. Worth the pick in the second IMO.

We might see them package either Marlon or Andrews with some picks before roster bonuses are due to get a player or move up in the draft.

I don't see them getting Khalil Mack or any of the other big name pass rushers in Free Agency. Unfortunately or fortunately, depending on how you look at it, the system they have of pass rush by committee has proven to work, so I doubt they ever invest in pass rusher outside of the draft.
