So she had a kid without having insurance and/or money saved up? 
Also if pregnancies really ~80K how and why are there men and women running around with 3-4 kids and still surviving? Something isn't adding up here?

This is a good point. I don't know anybody who had to pay $80k out of pocket for child birth.

she is reading the charges. most hospitals settle for less though. even if you don't have insurance, you get self pay discount or if it's a hospital like grady health system in atlanta, you pay on a sliding scale according to your income level. which means a lot of people end up paying pennies on the dollar.
Have as much as you can afford without government help.
She was in hospital for 4 days. and didn't have any health insurance.

she aint the only one eithermedical cost is criminal over here
just saying, 1) that was a pretty long stay, average is 48 hours. 4 days is like if you have complications or need extra time recovering from a c section.

2) the bill you receive from hospital is basically marked up hella high, what you end up paying through your insurance provider is a fraction.

Nobody posting in here is actually American I'm assuming. If you're broke its free to have babies in any hospital.
Insurance is a most in EVERY aspect, be it auto, home, renters, health, etc. Shít is low-key a scam, but it's one that you don't want to be left footing the bill.
