Last week, Warner Bros. announced its launched of Blue Ribbon, its digital production unit, as well as announced its first development slate, which includes a live-action version of "Static Shock," based on the late Dwayne McDuffie’s co-creation, "Static," about a teen hero (aka Virgil Ovid Hawkins) with electromagnetic powers, which Reginald Hudlin will lead the development of.
Denys Cowan, the man behind the original Static Shock animated series, which ran on the WB from 2000-04, is also working with Hudlin on the new series.
File this one under "rumor" for now, but several sites have picked up the story originally reported on UK-based entertainment website Flickering Myth, that Jaden Smith is the WB's top choice for the part, but no confirmation of this from the studio, nor from Hudlin.
But it's fun to speculate isn't it?
It's worth nothing that Jaden's pops, Will Smith is also reportedly being courted by Warner Bros. but for another comic book project - David Ayer’s "Suicide Squad" adaptation. And also, Jaden's mother, Jada Pinkett Smith, currently co-stars in Warner Bros. TV serial also based on a comic book franchise, "Gotham."
So maybe the Smith family is now in the WB comic book adaptation business; or maybe it's the other way around.
But, as I said, file this news of WB's interest in Jaden for "Static Shock" as unconfirmed rumor, until we hear differently.
