The worst part of this take is that one of the ways we found out about the trip was because Cruz diverted Houston Police resources to escort him through the airport instead of helping people in weather emergencies.

Even if there was nothing he could do, this situation is very similar to a captain abandoning a sinking ship. Using your wealth to save yourself and yourself only while people are freezing to death is just a very very bad look,

She's a big fundraiser for dems. She's almost always involved when there's a large disaster.
But sure, I imagine if Cruz stepped up she wouldn't need to do as much. But that's kind of what makes him a scumbag.
