Candace Parker reportedly paying NBA ex-husband large sum in divorce
Former Lady Vols forward Candace Parker will reportedly pay her ex-husband, former NBA forward Shelden Williams, $400,000 in alimony as part of their divorce settlement, according to court documents obtained by TMZ Sports on Tuesday.
The couple wed in 2008, two years after Williams, a former All-American at Duke, was selected fifth overall by the Atlanta Hawks in the 2006 NBA Draft. However, Williams filed for divorce in November, citing “irreconcilable differences,” according to TMZ Sports.
According to TMZ Sports, Parker has earned a significantly higher income than Williams, who reportedly made more than $12 million during six seasons in the NBA. However, the former WNBA MVP will only make one payment, rather than contribute continuous spousal support.
Both parties also agreed to split the profits on their previous home in Encino, Calif., which was recently sold for $3.75 million, according to the report.
Parker and Williams have also agreed on joint legal and physical custody of their 8-year-old daughter, Lailaa Nicole Williams, although neither will be obligated to pay child support, instead agreeing to “equally fund her education,” as well as pay for any necessary health-related costs, according to TMZ Sports.
Parker is one of the most decorated collegiate and professional women’s basketball players of all-time, having won two national championships, two Olympic gold medals, a Naismith College Player of the Year award, two WNBA regular season MVP awards, a WNBA Finals MVP award and a WNBA championship, among numerous other accolades.
