Golovkin's Promoter Responds to Reports of Hopkins Bout

There have been some published reports stating that a fight between WBA/IBO middleweight champion Gennady Golovkin, and former two-division beltholder Bernard Hopkins, is being negotiated for the fall. While the likes of Miguel Cotto and Saul Alvarez are scheduled to mix it up in November, Golovkin's quest for a meaningful fight continues.

But you wonder if facing the 50-year old Hopkins, who was shut out in his last outing by light heavyweight king Sergey Kovalev in November, is the ultimate no-win situation for Golovkin
.
When asked about this rumor of a possible fight with Hopkins, all Tom Loeffer (the managing director of K2 Promotions) would say to BoxingScene.com is - "Gennady's focus is on unifying the middleweight titles right now."

Golovkin is hoping that newly crowned IBF middleweight titlist, David Lemieux, will face him in the fall. Loeffler says he really didn't know when Golovkin would be back in action but according to the NYSAC website, K2 Promotions does have a show scheduled in New York on October 17th.

Breh, we already know both fighters have personal reasons on why only one would go up to fight and why the other would only go down to fight.

B-Hop was willing to fight him at 168 like Froch and JCC Jr.

So, Im supposed to be satisfied with GGG fighting Robert Heiland or Hassan N'Dam over B-Hop?:dwillhuh:

U sure it was 160?... That would legit be like fighting a sucked up old man.

I guess he could fight Bhop at 168 if the money is right.

I hate to bring up ward but ward did say he would fight anyone at 175, kovalev has called him out.. Why not ward fight kovalev?... Or would u rather see ward fight the smiths of the division?

B-Hop said at 168. He said he would fight GGG at 168.

SOG also said he needs 2-3 tuneups before he's ready to face the elite again...he has 1 down. SOG doesnt duck anyone, take it from KKKovalev's promoter, Kathy Duva, who's been in talks with RNS all along:sas1:

On the possibility of a fight against Andre Ward:

"We have been talking to Andre Ward's people all week. We all agree the fight is going to happen; it is just a matter of when. Sergey's schedule for his next few fights is planned. That fight should happen by the end of next year."

What's GGG's excuse for not really being willing to fight anybody from 154-168?:sas2:

So ward would have to wait 2-3 fights to fight GGG?

But u going to say GGG is not elite and he don't have to wait 2-3 fights to fight him :skip:

The rns vs duva talks remind me a lot of the arum vs Floyd talks from way back then honestly, I won't believe anything until it signed.... But to tell u the truth if ward is willing to fight kovalev in 3 fights it does make sense cuz about that time it would be time to move up.

Ward said he was fighting 2-3 tuneups before he even returned breh...not specifially for Kovalev:dwillhuh:

He has 1 down already, his 2nd will be around November-December. He could beat GGG in mid 2016 and beat Kovalev in late 2016......but by mid 2016, GGG is already gonna be beltless, because Canelo is gonna drain him down to 155.15 and beat him to unify the Middleweight Championship :birdman:

GGG is gonna have to choose whether he wants to be drained down to 155.15 to lose his belt or if he wants to fight SOG at 168 by mid 2016. Either way, he's losing:ahh:

Kovalev already has fights planned out....that's what Kathy Duva is telling us. Kovalev wouldnt be ready to fight Ward until late 2016, so SOG can get another tuneup in, whoop up on GGG, and be ready for Kovalev by the time Kovalev is finally ready for him.

Yeah, I didn't put much stock into GGG-Hopkins happening. I didnt think the chances were good for the fight to come off and I thought it was a lose-lose situation for GGG. He he won, he wouldn't get as much credit because Kovalev just shut him out and if he lost, same as above.
It would have been entertaining, one I think GGG wins via UD.

Still think in GGG's best efforts should be to maintain his weight for fights at 160 and not yo-yo around so he is ready for what hopefully is the Canelo-Cotto winner.
I think if GGG maintains his current weight, he will be in good shape. He said on the ESPN video he gets to 158, 159 before fights.
