mom dukes (like everyone else) wants a tablet

she doesn't know that she doesn't need one but that's besides the point. she will primarily be using it as an e-reader.

what are my best options? i thought about the ipad mini because its harder to "break." Whereas android tablets with their customization will inevitably end up with me trying to troubleshoot the problems over the phone or (even worse) pay someone else to do it

whatever i get, i wanna load it up with books for her too.

keep in mind we're long distance so i can't physically go hand it to her. :to:

when I started my current job back in march, I got a HUGE check from my previous job from all the excess vacation time I never took that they had to pay me out for. anyways, I used some of that money and copped moms an ipad3 the day it dropped. she been happy as hell with it. she loves it.

is it simple enough for her to use without you having to be the tech support guy? i hate tryna fix problems over the phone.

but that's why i was leaning towards apple. its expensive but easy to use

do your parents live in another state from you? cuz mines are local, and I see them at least 2 times a week. but I haven't had to help her much other than with dropbox and syncing up her pictures. however, she had an iphone 4, so she was kinda familiar with ios and what not. I would suggest getting ur moms a wifi only ipad or ipad mini. I made the mistake of getting the one with the 4G option, and she ain't even used that feature once :what:.

Probably the Kindle Fire HD.....

My wife loves hers, its a great reader and she was already obessed with Amazon before she got it so it was a perfect fit.

Before she got it, I was explaining to her why the Nexus 7 (what I have) and some other tablets are better. But woment don't care about all those bullshyt details. They want it to be simple, easy on the eyes and effective...

There are better tablets out there of course, that cost more and that have features that most women have no interest in using. but as far as being user friendly and (somewhat) catering to women its probably the way to go

Nothing personal, but go look up the reviews of the Kindle Fire HD compared to the Kindle Fire (non HD)
Supposedly the new one has a bunch of issues the former didn't :whoo:

Now, I know this stuff because I just bought a tablet for my mom who is for a lack of a better word, an idiot.... when it comes to computers that iz :lolbron:
I ended up copping an iPad 2 for $180 which is a steal.. but she was still clueless for a second. After I ran her thru it, put Netflix on that bytch
Put a few of her movies she likes on there.. she can now watch movies at work w/out having to lug around a portable DVD player like she'd sometimes do
You don't even have to ask if the iPad can do all that.

Now I got mine for that cheap off craigslist, an iPad mini should run you aboutg $4'something. So it really comes down to what she needs it for
If shes exclusively gonna just read books on it, then you don't need to spend that much bread on it when there are much cheaper alternatives that will do that no problem
If you can further elaborate on what you hope she'll use it for? I can help you better...

Why would I need to look at the reviews when my wife has had the Kindle Fire HD for a month and uses it everyday :heh:

She hasn't had ANY issues, but I'm sure thats because she uses it to read, surf the net and watch Netflix.. not doing all that extra stuff.

I personally think that the Nexus 7 is a much better tablet than the Kindle Fire HD, but I'm just thinking about for woman.

Its not like he gonna buy his Mom an Ipad off Craiglist, and I'm just trying to save the man about $200, $300. The ipad is probably the best all around tablet, but there is nothing it does that these other tablets can't, that can justify spending an extra $200, $300 on it...

my moms knows how to download apps and shyt, but still can't comprehend the concept of iTunes to manage her music :laff:.

imma have to go over there and transfer a large chunk of my music library on her iphone so she can have some music on her phone.
