T.I. has been teasing a new album, The Dime Trap, for months, and now he’s finally dropping the first single from that album, “Dope.”
During an interview with TIME about his role in Roots, an upcoming remake of the original iconic series debuting May 30, Tip “T.I.” Harris revealed that the single, produced by Dr. Dre, and video will be released on Monday.
“Come Monday, I will release my official first single, Dr. Dre-produced. It’s called ‘Dope,'” the rapper said. “It features Marsha Ambrosius, and it gives me great pleasure to say I was fortunate enough to be allowed the opportunity to sample the great, legendary Aaliyah’s song. And it makes me feel good to help keep the legacy of Aaliyah alive for today’s generation, the people who weren’t necessary around to witness her greatness.”
Aaliyah, a singer best known for hits like “Are You That Somebody” and “One In a Million,” died in a plane crash in 2001 at the age of 22.
The video for “Dope” will be a Tidal exclusive. “The wait is nearly over,” T.I. said.
