Yea, i had a post years ago praising the MCU for doing the improbable... making modern Americans of all cultures and creed collectively root for an old-fashioned blonde blue-eyed aryan from 1930s America

Their depiction of Rogers was unanimously liked if not adored, whereas even to this day nyggas still arguing about Cavill's Superman. In fact I see we're now divisive on the divisiveness

So yea, it's gut check time for Superman and Gunn. Is it truly still a big 3 (Spidey, Batman, Superman) or is that just old nygga babble in 2024? Can't wait

Three character that sort of had similiar personality originally. Cyclops, Superman, Captain American. (until they started writing cyclops like Malcom X/MAgneto 2.0 in the comics)
They are very boyscout, but i feel like its easier to write Cap that way, because he is time displaced and the audience can accept that personality due to seeing him as old timey, but its more of challenge to write someone who is just a young man that grew up in the modern era with that personality without seeming corny.
Hence why they have made Cyclops much more militant in recent years (which people seemed to like) With superman they either have to take a different approach like synder did or risk him coming off as corny. Have to give them personality flaws not keep him a larry sue

Gunn’s Superman will be enjoyable. Some people will hate it because it won’t be what they expected from a Superman. Oh well. Just let go and be entertained.

The question of how this will work is more on the villans and side characters. I doubt Gunn plans on making everyone bumbling idiots lol

most Modern comedies including James gunns recent movies always do this.
Reason i like deadpool is because he is pretty much only character in the movie acting silly, everybody else is playing it straight.
Gunn makes the entire cast act goofy. Rocket, Groot, Peter, Drax, Mantis, even The villain, everybody was goofy

They were able to lean into Cap’s morality in the storytelling. Following orders, paranoid militarism, protecting or harming a friend.

Superman and Lois was able to do this by adding in the balance of family vs superheroing.

Cavill’s Superman fell into the trap Snyder thought he was avoiding by being grim and gritty. We all know he’s going to chose Earth over Krypton. So where’s the tension here? What are we learning about the characters.

I don’t even know what the character struggle is in BvS.

Gunn made Brightburn too which is a superman horror. My thing is Gunn is actually into comics so I'm giving him grace to execute his vision and from there I will judge. But Deadpool isn’t a team movie. There’s a reason the entire supporting cast in the first two movies got zero to do in the third.

Gunn expanded his cast over three movies while accounting for MCU changes cause he understands character dynamics.

i would argue Suicide Squad and Peacemaker shows his groups have varying degrees of comedy.

Group or solo film, just pointing out that the entire cast of his movies tend to be goofy. not just the main character.
This Superman film, is going to have superman being funny, going to Lois Lane telling jokes, The villain will probably clown superman's uniform at some point, Superman's parents will be belly laughing the entire movie. Thats how james gunn works, wasn't anybody playing it straight in Suicide Squad or Peacemaker.

We’re off Snyder’s weak ass Superman. I knew it was up when nobody cared about his death in BvS lol.

Superman and batman were both interesting.

The problem was that it was too story driven and the story itself was chopped and screwed which made absolutely no sense.

There were also not enough action sequences in comparison to any marvel film.

MoS was written succinctly and cohesive then BvS sped up the story with terrible editing and overpaced storytelling killing the entire momentum.
