WBC president Mauricio Sulaiman is very pleased with the current state of boxing. He feels that the welterweight through middleweight divisions in particular offer many great matchups.
"I think there are many great fights that can happen between 147 and 160 pounds. So many great fighters. If you just take Canelo, Cotto and Triple G that is a triple great combination. I think we are going to see great fights in the coming year," said Sulaiman.
Sulaiman reiterated that a fight between WBC middleweight champion Miguel Cotto and former WBC/WBA junior middleweight champion Saul "Canelo" Alvarez will be allowed to take place before the winner is obligated to face WBC intern middle weight champion Gennady Golovkin. Cotto of course must win his upcoming fight for either the proposed matchups to take place.
"Triple G won, Canelo won already. Cotto needs to win on June 6th. There are advanced talks for Canelo-Cotto and that is correct the winner of that fight must fight Triple G," Sulaiman told BoxingScene.com.
