Alan Vega just died (rip) and I didn't see anything about it so figured I would make a thread.

Suicide is one of the GOAT late 70s/80s proto punk/no wave/synth wave groups, and hugely influential in the modern age as well. Dirty beaches exists because of suicide. Plus suicide were political and up on revolutionary ideology as well, which is dope.

@biscuitsnbangers @1984 y'all are the only two posters I could think of who might fukk with suicide, you with the shyts or nah?

Suicide was one band who's appeal I could never understand. I never felt like the music was truly transgressive (other bands from the era such as Throbbing Gristle, Cabaret Voltaire, Chrome, etc all did lo-fi music which sounds way "tougher") snd it was more theater than anything with actual bite.

I'm a fan. I actually got into them after listening to "state trooper" by Bruce Springsteen. He was listening to suicide when he was working on that song, and I guess he was trying to bite their style.

But yeah. They're good.

The first time I heard Frankie Teardrop, I was terrified. Now I can listen to that song pretty casually.

I'd been listening to Suicide pretty regularly right before Vega died, there's a humanism to the music that gets overlooked due to how confrontational the act was.

Plus Vega was a hell of a performer
