Call me crazy but I think being successful in the 90's was way better than being successful now... it's almost as if the fans had wayyy more respect for you back then than now. The thing you got to blame now is THE INTERNET!!!! the internet forced the stars to seem "Human" and all this connection with the fans just made them seem like one of us... it's like mystery is necessary to be this SUPER STAR and thats what the 90's have... it's kind of why DMX can't go back to the peak of success he had back then.. There was also way more doe to be made back then and it seems like the artist are living a "ballin on a budget" type of lifestyle nowadays! You even had Memphis Bleek be bigger than what he really was, it's like anyone could have a gold album as well. Now these reality shows and twitter connections make the fans have NO RESPECT for anyone, it's like yeah you can be popping off for a few years, but then you're fame is thrown in the bushes and there's no coming back ! :birdman:

i mean if you were famous in the 90's, you had this respect where everyone thought they couldn't touch you and things like that, today you got almost everyone criticizing you over the littlest things and you're life is more out there than anything... maybe it's just me but i'm guessing cuz things are different nowadays

I think it's more of a case of most celebrities being more..accessible thanks to certain social media like twitter and Facebook. IN the 90s you had to either catch them on the street or see them on TV (awards shows and so on).

I guess you could say that the net has bridged the gap between the celebs and the fans.

The biggest difference is that the fans now feel they a part of the industry. A lot of fans have their own Youtube videos/channels, Twitter/Facebook pages promoting their own music. Then there's the fan that is the blogger reviewing music. Furthermore, there's people blowing up off Youtube and getting deals. Some people on Youtube are actually getting paid off their content. Now it's like people feel they are on an even playing field with these artists.

The line between superstar and the average joe is becoming blurred. Anybody can become a star these days as it has become much easier. It's not such an "exclusive" club anymore.

Depends if you in it for the respect and accolades, if you want the money and the fame then 2012 is a better time, anyone can make paper once in the headlines .... while in the 90s they put in mad work.

Well yeah the econmony was :mindblown: Rappers from everywhere were actually selling records. Those same rappers who made a name for themselves in the 90s wouldn't even be heard today, due to the fizzle oversaturated game. And, still guys like 2Chainz doesn't even sale. :shaq2:

This is what makes Nas even special, one of the few 90's rappers that is still relevant today and never really "fell off" as far as his fame is concerned, it's been very consistent
