I don't know if this thread has been done before, but I thought it would be nice to have a thread where we can discuss study tips.
I try to study about two weeks before a test. I mainly just try to review what I know, and try to learn what I don't. I use flashcards to study. It helps me to memorize information better, and recall it if I write things down.
With math courses, I buy used math textbooks from bookstores, or online. If I'm stuck on something, it helps me to see how other textbooks approach the problem. Sometimes they may explain it simpler then my prof., or in a different way.
Does anyone have any tips on committing things to long term memory? That's my major problem.

If you have the money, buy supplementary books with additional problems. Review materials at least twice

1. Use a highlighter when reading, its called active reading.
2. You need to learn more than you need to know, to remember what you need to know. (Go in-depth and understand it inside out)

As far as duration, study as long as you need till you know it cold, if it only takes once cool. I use to look at the title of the section in a book, review it in my head, then skim it to see what i missed. If i didn't miss anything, I was ready for the exam.

With math... I usually do the same set of problems about three times, or until I have the process completely figured out.

I used to just do the homework once, and sometimes I would get a B grade here and there on tests. It's not worth it.

With History and other Memorizing classes, I usually read with a laptop and outline the entire required reading. That has helped me a lot actually.

Unless your prof just tests on the homework problems, or you're taking lower division courses, this is the absolute WORST way to study math.

I had to learn this the hard way. :sadcam:
