A study by a liberal advocacy group says Florida leads the nation in tea party members and organizations.

The study, done by the Seattle-based Institute for Research and Education on Human Rights finds Florida, the nation’s third-largest state, edges out the top two, California and Texas, because of the number of tea party members per capita and number of tea party organizations.

The study said Florida has 36,423 tea party members compared to California’s 40,508 and Texas’s 39,442. But Florida outranked them in members per capita, and also scored high in the number of tea party organizations, 69.

The study found that even though sympathy for the tea party has declined somewhat since last fall’s government shutdown controversy, “core membership in the national Tea Party factions remains high, at over half a million people.” The number of tea party supporters, based on social media comments—tweets and Facebook “likes”—rose during 2013.

It also said the gender breakdown among tea party sympathizers has remained steady since 2010, about two-to-one male.“

The core of the movement has hardened and grown, even as sympathy for the movement has leveled off and opposition has increased,” said Devin Burghart, author of the report. “The middle ground is shrinking further every day.”

The institute, whose advisory board includes leaders of labor unions and civil rights organizations including the NAACP, says it’s devoted to “social and economic justice (and) a truly multi-racial, multicultural democracy and individual human rights.” Much of its work has been devoted to monitoring what it calls white nationalist organizations.- See more at: http://www.tboblogs.com/index.php/n...in-tea-party-membership/#sthash.1BMZvteS.dpuf

What's your opinion on this result, breh? Do you think there's a connection to the recent anti-black commotion and conservative activism?
Honestly I think the spotlight currently on Florida has blown both the activism, and "anti-black" commotion out of proportion. :manny:

Granted I havent looked into it that much.

Obama did something historic and unprecedented in 2012: he flipped the Cuban vote in Florida. There's conflicting reports about who actually won the Cuban vote, he or Romney, but it was about 50/50. Historically, the Repubs always dominated the Cuban vote, like 65-80%.

Florida's looking like a blue state pretty much now. That's why the teabaggers are all :violent: now. They know they're on their way out. They're old, dying, and surrounded by blacks, hispanics, Asians, Jews, young people, and transplants from the northeast and midwest cities.

Young Cuban voters broke with the old guard after GWB and crew almost melted down the economy. Poor Jeb can't run in 16 because the family brand name is in the toilet. Obama was wise to get Gloria and Emilio Estefan to hold those fund raisers for him and have Latino banquets at the White House. Also, there's a ton of Puerto Ricans leaving the island and settling in the Orlando-Tampa corridor that have a major influence.

Yea I caught that on Bill Maher, he was talking about how the Cuban vote is changing and the Republicans only rebound would be to push a reform on the Cuban embargo. :yeshrug:
