Duuuuuvaaaaal!!
To my fellow old heads. What are y'all doing for stretching/warmups before you start hitting it hard in the gym? I just started my first serious gym run in my life. Finally got motivated to make a change. I ain't tryin to hurt myself though. So if anybody could drop some stretch and warmup jewels I'd be much appreciated.

I do something like the dynamics mentioned above, very slow/controlled push-ups for 30 seconds on upper body days. I also try to do some planks for a 1min plus on rest for 25 and repeat 2-3 times. I don't know if the planks make any sense but I usually do compound lifts first so at least it makes me feel like my core is awake :manny:

I do dynamic stretching: high leg kicks, hip stretches, etc. I also work in a couple of static stretches (most people recommend doing these after a workout, but I like mixing them in with dynamics before working out; I feel more limber)

I do warmups before hitting it hard. That's followed by very mild stretching before hitting it hard.
Major stretching routines are done 'after' the workout.

50-100 jumping jacks to warm up, then some dynamic stretches. If I have time (I workout in the morning before work), I do some static stretches afterwards.

Static stretching before warming is much less effective and can be dangerous. There are some exceptions, but for the most part, save em.

I like to walk on the treadmill for 20 minutes before stretching :manny:
