Today we will discuss a different kind of topic. This isn't a pose or a specific angle, but rather we will go over certain tips to help you better identify when Photoshop has been used. This will be a longer, more complicated lesson.
Let's begin
Identify Photoshop
Photoshop is something that has been used since the mid 80s. Before that, all editing was done by hand. Today, it is a universally known tool that has turned into its own verb. It is an IG model's favorite tool when she can't get that lump to go away or just needs a bigger ass. Photoshop can remove blemishes, adjust imperfections and many other things. For this lesson we will focus on the most common thing IG models use it for.
This image may look normal, but I instantly can tell this was Photoshopped and this will be explained.
To better identify it, you first need to understand the main reasons why Photoshop is used. IG models use Photoshop mainly for two reasons.
1. To Pull body parts out so they look bigger (Butt, Breasts, Thighs)
2. To Push body parts in so they look smaller (Waist, Torso, Face)
To do this, the best tool is the Liquify/Warp Tool
This tool allows you to Push or Pull certain parts of the body w/o affecting other areas. You have a circular brush to click and drag how far in or out you want to go. It is clean and easy to do. The downside is that it creates slight distortion and blur in that affected area. There will be a change in texture and detail will be lost. This can be corrected by a pro, but most people leave it as is. Below is an example.
The preferred option for a model is to be posed in front of a clear solid background. The Warp tool cane become tricky if the background has a lot of different things in it. If she is behind a clear background or a blurred one, there is a good chance Photoshop was used. You may notice a lot of models unnecessarily using Portrait mode to take photos. This adds a blur to the background to better help when editing. You won't notice any distortion because the background is already blurred.
Another sign of usage is if a specific body part looks too perfect. The human body does not have any completely straight lines. If her back or stomach looks like it was drawn with a ruler, then there is a good chance it was Photoshopped.
Also you need to use a bit of logic when trying to identify. Ask yourself one question. "Why would she edit this specific area?"
If part of the background looks distorted, would it make sense to be in this specific area? Is she trying to have thicker thighs? Does she need to bring in her waist? Does the distortion go in the same direction her body part is?
Examples
Okay let's examine her.
Off the bat if you look at her lingerie in the mid section, you will notice distortion. The Warp tool was used to push in her stomach. It's an easy giveaway because it looks like she accidentally pushed in too much and warped her finger.
Also look at her right thigh. That dip indicates her thigh was pushed in. You can also see a slight dip in the shadow her inner thigh is casting. That does not make sense. She is positioned directly in front of natural soft light from the window which would create softer shadows. That hard shadow line between her thighs was caused by the warp tool. That soft shadow was compressed when she was bringing her thigh in creating the harder look.
And lastly the crease from the torso and thigh. For all the weight she has, there would be a much deeper crease in that area. Some of the shadows were removed. The more shadows in that area would make her gut more apparent.
Here we have another example of the Warp Tool.
Looking at the other beads, this section is the only one with an unnatural curve to them. It would make sense that those beads are curved if her butt was being pulled in that downward direction to make it rounder. You can even see a slight distortion to the beads in the same direction her butt would be pulled on.
Another one.
Look at the background by her ass. It looks like it is rounded and distorted. You can tell her butt was pulled out by a rounded brush. Even if you look at the other side you can see the same effect with the background.
Here you can see her ass was pulled out due to the warping of the background and also you can see her mid section was pushed in. That brown thing looks like a piece of wood from the fixture in the background. Have you ever seen a piece of wood curve like that?
Let's examine how textures change because of the tool.
Look at how much detail is on the other side of the white line. You can see at the edge of her ass is where it drastically turns smooth. The Warp tool was used to pull her ass out.
Another texture change. Given how sharp the rest of the image is, this area being slightly blurred/distorted makes us believe Photoshop was used
In conclusion models love to use the Warp Tool in Photoshop. It helps Pull their ass and thighs out to look thicker and more round. And it helps Push in their waists and torsos to look thinner. If a part of the image looks distorted or out of place, then it's safe to assume it was edited.
Oh and don't be fooled. A lot of these women have people that do it all for them. They have many guys that wouldn't mind being their professional photographers & editors for a "small fee" lol.
Our next lesson will be examining how they achieve a bigger ass with The Push Out
