Why hasn't steroid use and abuse been a bigger issue in the NFL over the last 30 years?

In baseball its keeping people out of the hall of fame, and we are constantly hearing about drug testing. There was a CONGRESSIONAL INVESTIGATION on steroids and baseball :mindblown:

I've never heard the media say shyt about steroid use in the NFL.

This guy is no big deal

I'm not saying bartolo is using but baseball isn't a full contract sport where on any given play you can die or end up paralyzed.

Because...

So brehs wanna get that strength advantage in football so that they can get the upper hand.

No I get that but from a media/political/public relations POV wouldn't it behoove them to pressure the NFL and NFLPA on steroid use??

You cant tell me steroids are a bigger problem in MLB than in the NFL.

Laron Landry, the NFL player you posted was suspended multiple times for PED. NFL players are constantly suspended for getting caught.

Reason why it's a bigger deal in baseball because that sport is all about stats and dudes juicing destroy records which becomes a huge deal.

I think it’s a couple of things, one is the importance of individual records and accomplishments in baseball. The numbers in baseball are cherished, so people have a natural inclination to protect their childhood heroes records from being tarnished.

Also, football is a gladiatorial sport where it’s accepted that people will do whatever it takes to play on Sunday. Steroids and other BS have been a part of the sport for decades to get people out on the field, and as long as the players play at a high level no one really cares. The teams and dynasties that most people grew up watching were juiced to the gills, so it doesn’t have the same emotional weight as steroids in baseball. People watch football for the violence and barbarism, while for a lot of people baseball is supposed to harken back to a more innocent time in our history.

100% agree.

The only historical records that really matter in the NFL are: all-time rushing record, single-game rushing record, single-season rushing record and team with the most Super Bowl wins. All-time sack record is probably on that list as well.

Receiving stats are almost ignored because Jerry Rice has numbers that NO ONE can touch. Even legitimately great HOF brehs can't get those numbers. Michael Irvin + Calvin Johnson roughly equals Rice in yards and catches. Passing yards are a joke now because the rules have been tilted to favor QB's so much. Rushing records are MORE special now because it's so hard to find someone durable enough that can play long enough to put up the numbers. Emmitt carried the ball 4,400 times. 300 carries per season is considered a heavy workload. Add in Emmitt's 500+ receptions and we're talking about around 5,000 touches......which is insane.

Baseball numbers are a bit easier to compare across eras, especially for HR's, slugging etc. Pitching records won't be broken just because of deeper rotations (ain't nobody touching Cy Young's 511 wins).

Individual stats in football also is dependent on other team factors as well. Jerry had Montana throwing him the ball, Emmit had a great OL blocking for him, Brady had Moss to throw TD's to, etc. Not to mention offensive/defensive schemes matter.

In baseball, it's the pitcher vs the batter in a one on one duel. And you get individual numbers on all players based on that confrontation.

In football, you can also be recognized as a great player without all the stats. Offensive linemen, DBs can have a huge impact without great numbers. In baseball, the only thing i can think of is a catcher calling a great game, otherwise, numbers always will back up a great player.
