I thought Floyd Mayweather performed well. He was his usual self: smart boxing, good movement, pot shotting. I am not ready to say he has slipped a great deal and here is why. Prior to his first win against Maidana, Floyd had just come off of a virtuoso performance against Canelo Alvarez at 154 lbs. The reason why is because Canelo is more of a boxer than a pressure swarmer. In the rock, paper, scissors of boxing the swarmer can get some good work done in on the boxer.
It’s very tough to outbox Floyd if you’re feet are slower than his and you are shorter than him. Canelo is both. Maidana on the other hand is one nasty dude. I’m telling everybody who will listen he we will always give Floyd a rough fight at any point of his career. Floyd was very subdued after the fight because he took punishment. I was there live, up close...Maidana hurt Floyd a couple of times. Floyd showed a solid beard. Maidana fights Floyd like and animal and human beings don’t like fighting animals. So to say there is slippage in Floyd may not be accurate. It could be the style. Emanuel Augustus, Jesus Chavez and of Jose Luis Castillo all swarmed Floyd. All had consistent success even in the rounds they weren’t winning. Look at all of those fights. No one suggested that Floyd was reduced to 95% back then, he was in his mid 20s.
I personally think we should give Maidana credit. And assuming Floyd should dominate him.He never loses badly in my opinion except for the Devon Alexander fight. And that’s just looking more and more like an off-night. Actually I want to see it again. The masses are suggesting that Floyd has slipped because they underestimate Maidana. Ask Floyd Mayweather and Adrien Broner can Maidana fight. In Floyd’s last competitive fight he went for the ko in the last round against Miguel Cotto. In this fight he stayed away there was a reason for that. At 154, Floyd “allowed” Miguel Cotto to wear his MX brand Everlast gloves. At 147, he didn’t allow Marcos Maidana to wear the same brand of gloves. There is a reason for that also.

I would like to see Marcos Maidana vs Devon Alexander again as well. Maidana wasnt even being trained by Robert Garcia at that time and is a different fighter (as far as subtle technique) today than he was then
