The crime, which took place in May of 2023, stemmed from a dispute over fraudulent credit card charges. Prosecutors revealed that Candace Craig had been stealing from her mother, and when Margaret discovered the fraud, the argument escalated to violence. Craig killed her mother, then gruesomely dismembered her body and attempted to get rid of the remains by burning them on a barbecue grill.
Assistant State’s Attorney Shauna Coleman walked the jury through the timeline of events during closing arguments, detailing how Craig tried to shift blame onto her daughters in a desperate attempt to avoid responsibility.
