As much as I dislike Episode VII and VIII I still prefer them to the new Treks.
In a way VIII is both the best and the worst of the bunch, visually easily superior - storytelling the worst or at least on par with Kahn.
Into the Darkness and Force Awakens are both shallow ass nostalgic memberberry ass remakes.
The more I think about it this the worse both restarts seem.

Star Trek by a million miles. And I don't care about anything Star Trek related, so I can't see anything wrong with those movies.

JJ didn't get what made Star Trek special and made two sci-fi action movies with callbacks to the Original Series era.
Even though Episodes 7 & 8 are Star War movies made for people that remember 4-6 and had their childhood ruined by 1-3, they still feel like Star Wars movies and are a little easier to rewatch
