It's harsh but it shows what a genius Stan Lee is. While everyone of us would be amazed at them drawing and inventing a character in 20 minutes. Stan was picking that shyt apart for the little things that people take for granted. How does he get his suit on and off fast? We have to justify why he'd be wearing each piece of his costume. How does he move in this? Why are there 4 knuckles and 3 projectiles? Who is he outside of his costume?
You can't just think something looks cool and has a dope costume. You gotta make that shyt work in all aspects of a kid's mind, who will be reading and ripping apart every detail.

Stan without Kirby and Ditko isn’t the creative force people think he is. Both guys end up creating iconic characters in Deadpool and Spawn respectively.
As a kid I thought he was dope but Rob deserved to get shyt on:

Simple difference of views. Stan was a writer, so he had those things on his mind. In his mind, you come up with a character and a story, then you worry about making them look cool later.
Liefeld and MacFarlane are artists, so they work going the opposite direction. Give the character a cool look and name, and then figure out the rest later.
Also, while the character is popular now, I hesitate to automatically call a character like Deadpool iconic when he's really just Liefeld really wanting to draw Deathstroke despite not working at DC. Not to mention that it didn't really take off until years later when writers decided to make the character a parody of itself and overly serious comics at the time.
