shyt betta not be true friends....

============================

"The next-generation of consoles have gone halfway towards a disc-less, digital-only approach, says Eidos life president Ian Livingstone, hinting that the next Xbox will require internet connectivity and will feature watermarked discs that block used games.

Livingstone, who was one of the driving forces behind Eidos and its Tomb Raider franchise, was in India recently to promote Crystal Dynamics’ latest Lara Croft adventure.

On the possibility of boxed retail being abandoned in favour of digital distribution, Livingstone told MCV, “Boxed games aren’t being abandoned just yet. I think the next iteration of consoles – the PS4 and the next Xbox, have got optical disc drives even though they probably don’t want to have them. Broadband speed globally isn’t at a level that justifies digital-only.”

“So they’ve gone halfway,” he added, giving the example of Microsoft’s supposed next-gen approach, “With the next Xbox, you supposedly have to have an internet connection, and the discs are watermarked, whereby once played on one console it won’t play on another. So I think the generation after that will be digital-only.”

Livingstone also opined that the PS4 and the next Xbox could well be the last generation of consoles in their traditional form. “It’s difficult to predict because so many factors come into play, not least of which is how fast broadband is going to be. It’s likely that there won’t be a set-top box anymore. It’s likely to be technology embedded into a smart TV that’s connected to the internet and everything will be served from the cloud.""

he was quoted as saying "supposedly" right?

Was there more of this interview you wanted to share with something definitive?

We all want to be :ooh: like you but we need more.

If Steve Jobs was still alive I'd confidently say that Apple was going to lead the way with the idea of embedded OS's on TV's. Yes, I know other people are doing it already...but no one gives a fukk right now. They will if/when Apple does it.

But without Steve here :to: I'm not sure if Apple can properly create the market

We might have to wait until Sony or Microsoft does it with a gaming platform.

We all know that Nintendo doesn't have the kind of partnerships in place to pull something like this off. :steviej:

Thing is why does this "rumor" keep poppin up

Obviously where there is smoke, there is fire.

Let's say MS does do this (block used games). Sony is already setup for online passes for used games and I doubt it changes next gen. But at least if you buy used, you can still pay for the activation code. If MS blocks a used game COMPLETELY, that's a whole 'nother ballgame bruh and it's not good. On the PS side, it's the publisher's decision since Sony let's publishers do what they want to do. On MS side, it's way more tightly controlled so if it comes from MS, EVERYONE has to go with it.

Why not come out and debunk this shyt though? :lookherebruh: This aint 2005...shyt spreads too quickly now in this day and age.

From where I sit, there is no reason to say that there won't be blocking of used games if your console will not be blocking used games. So all this cloak and dagger sh!t just tells me that used games will be blocked or they will get money from you in some way. They probably don't want optical drives because they know they can't fully protect it. Eventually someone is going to find a way to play those games and bypass the security. Until people band together and stop buying these systems, this kind of stuff will continue to happen.

What the fukk are talking about :what:
Sony hasn't set up shyt regarding online passes. Some developers do that on both systems NOW
What makes you say the ps4 wouldn't do that? And how many "rumors" are out there saying the ps4 is doing this as well?
Didn't they just get caught lying about how the ps4 will play used disc while leaving out the "catch"
Let me refresh your memory

Its not surprising that when I drop real info, you only wanna return the favor
Your article is cute, but it isn't ground breaking news bruh.
There is nothing new here. All that is being confirmed is that both companies have the choice. And it appears that both have decided to limit used games. An always on connection is not a problem for me since my xbox is always connected via wifi :hula:
My cell phone is always on, and tracks my every movement
Facebook keeps tabs on everything you do, and where you did it from
Using Google tracks you. Get over it or build yourself a tin foil hat

Sony's refusal to give a clear answer is telling as fukk...I just read another article where Denny basically said..."yea we know you want a clear answer but we're not giving you one".
they did something to the hardware for sure

My guess is that Sony is still working out the final details of whatever they plan on doing.

They are probably going to see how Microsoft's announcement shakes out.

They more than likely have a system built into place that can be turned on with a flick of a switch.

Developers have been BEGGING FOR THIS shyt.

STEAM is doing it.

Welcome to the next gen :bryan::bryan::bryan::bryan::bryan:

ONLINE PASS - ALREADY DONE ON THE PS3 BY SONY FIRST PARTY GAMES AND EA. JUST BE PREPARED FOR IT FOR ALL GAMES ON PS4, EVEN IF YOU ARE NOT DOING MULTIPLAYER.

Can we BAN rekka for intentionally speading false information? I've corrected him enough times and yet he' still doing it :smh:
EA does this on xbox and ps3
Only ps3 games 1st party that require this pass is... Twisted Metal and I can't name another one. Capcom did it on a PSN title that they didn't do it on the xbox version. Uncharted 2/3 didn't require any passes.
LBP didn't either. What games does this Rekka so I can stand corrected :manny:

Wow, what a spit in the face to gamers. They're selling licensed products. You dont really even own your games. Why do i always have to have an internet connection with a camera on it. This new xbox will not sell well in the hood. This new xbox will not be showcased in the barber shop. This new xbox is for a segment of the population i cant even identify. These microsoft execs are ruining their business with this decision. Wow.

Playstation 4 this holiday season yall. Lets not buy intrusive privacy violating machines.
