Of all the people who play sports hardcore in their youth, how many make a living doing it for any amount of time?

Most don't "make it". Those who do even get to amateur level might get seriously injured before they get an actual job doing it. Or they have chronic injuries that plague them for life like back and knee problems.

Of those that make a living, most don't get rich. And for those who get rich, they end up dying young way more often or they have a serious or chronic injury.

But think about all the people who die or are catastrophically injured (paralyzed, otherwise incapacitated, or serious brain injury) playing sports. The ones that never got any benefit from it.

We like it cause of that. Same reason Rome put a Coliseum in every place they conquered. People love to watch gladiators. It's so powerful that it kind of controls the population. Even movies and TV let you look at mortal combat situations up close. Although fictionalized.

Its bread and circus although fun it’s still there to satisfy the human appetite for competition
AND (like the romans) distraction from the shyt that will make a population revolt.

You're right but I regret not being into sports hardbody as a younging. Alot of them dudes regardless learned alot of those hard lessons early on and if you're humble, it stays with you later in life. Unlike myself who was spoonfed those lessons but lacked the discipline and experience to learn from it.

The absolute top tier athletes are peak human and it's a pleasure to watch them. Those that failed in the attempt to join their ranks would not be better off being average Joe's with regular jobs. Because you never know where you stand until you go all out.

yeah

it also shows the hierarchy of intelligence over physicality

the suits & nerds get the lions share but never suffer or sweat

the players on the court & 99.9% of the crowd don't see the real competition

let's go even further
the mascots are their gods
The logos are iconography?

:patrice:

“In Christianity, lilies symbolize purity and chastity, which may be why the fleur-de-lis historically represents the Virgin Mary.”

May be something to that and fansticism.

People go where the money and fame is.

Most men would gladly sacrifice years of their life to get the type of money professional sports pays. Even if it’s a long shot.

Staying on the couch sucking up cheeto dust instead of being out and active as a teen and kid is slow motion human sacrifice too
