The sports genre as a whole is like a harbinger for monetization across the industry. They were the first to do annual releases, first to dive headfirst into multiple SKUs for each release and designing game modes around microtransactions

Just saw this bout an hour ago. All facts, I think he perfectly articulated what alot of ppl (me included) couldn't quite put their finger on. shyt that tripped me out is how all the games were 3D. I'm sitting here like "why he ain't put tecmo bowl up there" but then I remembered..he probably only 25.

Once you expand to other game genres you realize how unimaginative and repetitive sports games are. Cats get on here and talk about casuals but no genre relies on casual gamers like this one. 2K, FIFA, & Madden are a hit to a fiend and they will always comeback, so why reinvent the wheel.
I heard that it was because EA was making tons off microtransactions and FIFA demanded a portion of it.
I don't see why after 30 years FIFA would suddenly trip over the licensing fee, but I guess it's possible.

I didn’t watch this video, but I know every sports game these days have a “MYTeam” mode, which is something I’ve never done in any game. I remember when 2k first introduced the MyCareer, and that was cool at first going from college, getting drafted, possibly going to the G-League and working your way up. One thing I never liked about that mode is that it’s too unrealistic in the sense that they make you start off EXTRA trash. Rookies aren’t coming into the league with no athleticism AND no skill. Rookies don’t even really get more athletic. They might get stronger, and that’s about it. It’s their skill and IQ that increases over time. With micro transactions, they made it so that the only way to build up your player in a reasonable amount of time is to pay, and I’m not doing it. I haven’t played that mode in years.
I really only play exhibition these days. I would do franchise mode, but the CPU transactions make no sense, and the CPU generated rookies look weird.

I stopped playing sports games around NBA 2k13 and haven't went back. I just lost interest. All the new shyt was just dumb to me.
