I made a thread earlier about the Black Nuclear family. In doing research on the Akan people for my comic series. I was reminded of the generational living trend in African families. I also was reminded of the "out by 18" Mindset many AA parents seem to have now a days. Does anyone think that going back to a generational living format would be benefical and is it possible.

It would be beneficial but I don't see it happening unless the housing markets continue to crush buyers/renters.
I usually associate it with rural/farm people more so than urban/city dwellers.
Individualism rules the lands here, not collectivism.

Do you see this being a result of rural tradition or necessity?

I think if the family planned for this to be the case, then child-rearing and then independence-rearing measure would be utilized for this success. In my own experience and ones of friends, you get too similarly different to your parents to be around them. Having weird arguments about the most effective way to wash dishes and stuff. If you had land then you could just build a smaller house out back or something, or if you have like 2 floors then one could be given to the child/ren who are of age and stacking until they buy some of their own property/adjacent properties/whatever. It would require an entirely different familial dynamic, and as we have it barely together as it is, it would take a lot of love and clear communication(!!!) to be able to make it work. It would be possible with the right partner I imagine.
