The expectations of a Hip-hop artist are low. At best their judgment is based on lyricism. And how similar their lifestyle are to their subject matter. Listeners don't care about your abilities to play piano, strum guitars, compose melodies from scratch. All you need is ride the beat, elicit a champions aura. It's has the lowest entry and production value or any genre. Hence its current dominance and diluted nature. The technical lyrical aspect of hip-hop has been sidelined for beats. Drake is always evolving his style to capture the sound of the moment. Hence his household relevance. Pick any of your greatest rappers and most of them aren't "musicians".
