We found significant differences in semen parameters among men of different race/ethnicity. Black men in our cohort had mean values for semen volume, sperm concentration, total sperm count and total motile sperm count that were significantly lower than White or Hispanic/Latino men. These differences did not appear to be attributable to study center. We are not aware of previous reports of differences in semen quality by race or ethnicity, and there appear to be few data regarding semen parameters in Black and Hispanic/Latino men.
Povey et al, 2012 reported that Black ethnicity was a risk factor for low motile sperm concentration in a case-control study of male partners of infertile couples.
