Giving your team the chance the possibility of having great field position or even scoring on the kick return>>>>>>>Downing it for the 20 every time.

The problem with this statement is all kicks are kicked in the endzone now so its going to look like its more frequent (it is).

not sure what you mean....

what im saying is, prior to the rule change......pretty much anytime a kick went into the endzone it was being downed. they was doing this becaused they realized it wasnt worth the risk to run it out because they probably wouldnt make it to the 20....

now after the rule change....they like fukk it........nikkas is running kicks caught at the back of the end zone out.....

the actual risk of making it to the 20 hasnt changed......so why are teams so willing to rolll the dice on kick returns now?

it doesnt make sense

under your theory, there should be no kickoff returns period, since every kickoff goes into the endzone.

and we know this isn't going to happen. teams aint going to take that part of the game away, especially when they have good return men.

This is basically what I was getting at.

theres a certain risk/reward there.

so you start your drive at the 15 yard instead of the 20. how much does that really hurt you? what about that 1 out of 50 kick returns thats returned for a touchdown?

Yeah unless its almost certain that the returtner aint going get much yards out of it (which there's a player that checks for that and tells the returner to stay in the endzone) then they should take their chances of getting better field position.

General thought is most teams don't work on kickoff coverage much anymore because they expect touchbacks. Not sure what the numbers show though.
