Because I was bored, I decided to attempt to confirm a long-standing suspicion of mine: Is 2009 the most overrated year in the history of Indie Music?

Now I didn't answer that question, but I did take the top 15 albums (Minus Raekwon's, because it's not indie) from this year-end list: Staff Lists: The Top 50 Albums of 2009 | Features | Pitchfork (There's a link from the 4th page in the article itself) and assess them along the lines of every amateur music critic's favorite game: Overrated/Underrated/Properly Rated. It seemed like a great candidate, because I can't remember a year where so many albums that I thought were garbage, mediocre or simply less than they were hyped to be got so much hype. So I decided to investigate a bit.

I'll edit this post with a link when the article goes up, but if you have thoughts on that year in Indie, by all means, comment before then.

Yeah actually, Wolfgang Amadeus Phoenix is a really good album.

I forgot how much I enjoyed a lot of these songs.

This fukk nikka actually called Wolfgang Amadeus Phoenix overrated? Word to everything I'mma shoot you on sight nikka.

Damn, you act like I said it sucked or something.

It was a good pop album by an experienced, tight band with good dynamics. It even managed to impress me at certain points ("Love Like a Sunset Part I," for example). All I'm saying is that it didn't knock me off my feet (the fukk Buttons and Fever Ray albums, for example, were quite impressive) and that I was pretty much done with it after "Rome". And for a GRAMMY WINNING ALBUM, that can't happen. That's the very definition of overrated, to me.

But then again, it's just opinion. :yeshrug:
