Speaking to NLab, Sony Interactive Entertainment denied increasing PlayStation 4 production to deal with the current PlayStation 5 shortage.

Denying recent reports, the video game and digital entertainment division of the Japanese company noted that it had no initial plans to end production of the PS4 last year. Highlighting that any further production and sales of the console were already planned in parallel with the rollout of the PS5. Sony also noted that its release schedule of the previous-gen and next-gen console follows the introduction of previous consoles.

Earlier this week, reports claimed that Sony had originally planned to end production of new PS4 consoles by the end of 2021, but the shortage of PS5 had pushed it to move towards producing an additional million PS4 units in 2022.

Sony Denies Increasing PS4 Production to Deal With PlayStation 5 Shortage

Ironically the author of the original story from bloomberg wrote about how sony would support the ps4 for another 3 years in 2019

Things that make you go hmmmmm????

That isn't a crazy idea tho.

It’s crazy to think that one million ps4’s for the entire year are gonnna in anyway compensate for a lack of PS5’s. :mjlol:

Thats like 500 units per country over the course of a year, with the United States and uk maybe getting an additional 1000 or so

The US would probably get the lions share of those I think. But I'm not in manufacturing and perhaps the chips on those are are hard to come by.
