When did Sons Of Anarchy premiere? Was it 2008? I watched the first 2 seasons, mostly skipped the Irish one, in 2010, which was preposterous, but Season 4 in 2011 was good, remember watching week to week. I think skipped the 2012 season and watched the one in 2013, which I remember the premiere being really bad. By that point, my boys were into it, and we watched the premiere together. But, it was so over the top, it was almost unwatchable. There was some scene involving someone getting pissed on or something.
Lots of good montages lol, but it's not really a good show. It has some strong fundamentals and performances. Goes on for way too long. Writing is melodramatic and hacky. Clay was great. Def. the Vic Mackey character. You can see where Kurt Sutter went astray, and was kept in check during The Shield, though you can obviously see the influences from that show, the formula was essentially each week there is some problem that Jax has to solve, but involves something being concealed which will come up in the next three episodes. Each problem compounds the last.
but, yeah what people probably miss about a show like this is the authenticity and rawness, not that it's realistic. Because the idea that these guys weren't taken down in a RICO was kind of a hard thing to keep selling the audience. Alos, they didn't really have any income. Benjmain Bratt gets involved at some point and it's pretty bad.
