I was under the impression that no one outside the flock, no one of import, gave a sh1t about what comes out of the Vatican. I've been to Rome, you don't want to be taking any advise from anyone that willingly decides to live there.

Right. The media is fascinated by the pope for the same reason they are fascinated by British royals - old relic sideshow who's main purpose now is to attract tourists. Royals provide lip service and hold lepers too. However, unlike the royals, it seems the media for some reason treats this particular Pope like he has any real power. Apparently he's won times person the year and the like. Popes ultimately get judged based on whether they performed make believe miracles, not anything tangible. Rich Europe is protestant. Americans are protestant and who's Catholics consistently vote against Church doctrine. Asia isn't catholic. The only people who give a sh1t about what the Pope says are third world idiots.
