I don't just sit in my car and waste time in a place that is not safe. I also tell everyone else in my family not to lollygag around in areas you are unfamiliar with or are open to being accosted.

As @CreepyMcCreeperson correctly stated, anyone can be a person out seeking an easy mark. There is no reason to make yourself one. Most of the time, opportunist criminals avoid situations that are difficult. Best to make it as difficult as possible for someone to attempt to commit a crime against you.
