2. Who are your favorite Jazz artists that you recommend?

If you happen to scroll by this, I'd really appreciate an answer. I'm not sure if I'll get one cuz I'm not sure if The Coli has any Jazz heads

I'm trying to get into it. Anyone got any recommendations? Loved Robert Glasper's Black Radio and loved the stuff I've heard from Bobbi Humphrey.

My first recommendation would be to narrow down what type of genre/era you're interested in. From 1910's hot jazz to 1970's free jazz there are so many sub-genres that are totally different that you have to sort out what you like most before going head in.

If you really like 1970's CTI Bob James soul jazz, you're not gonna want to bump a Charlie Parker complete compilation right away even though he may be the most iconic figure in jazz.

If you're not into early jazz and vocal jazz I would recommend to listen to Miles Davis. He made a lot of classic records from the 50's to the 70's in a lot of different genres from bebop to cool to hardbop to modal to fusion... That's a good starting point IMO.

This is exactly what you should do. If you are looking for a more subdued sound than a free jazz style record may not be the best introduction.:jawalrus:

I don't know if that fits your idea of smooth jazz but try the records from CTI/Kudu label.

Georgia, Home of the trillest

The Seatbelts - "NY RUSH" This is the joint is fire. The horn runs really sets the mood for the piece. It's in your face, energetic, and swinging. There's a lot of attitude here, this isn't your granddad's jazz. It doesn't help that the guitar is steadily building tension. I prefer my jazz in a big band setting rather than combo, but that's preference.

Check out Miguel Zenon, he's a saxophonist who puts out great music. Alma adentro is a cd I highly recommend from him.

Such a wonderful thread. I honestly have to say Jazz is the crowning achievement of western music. True Black excellence and the definition of creativity.
