the european cup (champions league) is a tournament played simultaneously with the respective leagues of europe's different countries. they also play domestic cups, usually two. the league itself is usually 38-40 games, mostly weekends, with euro cup games during the week and domestic cups played during "off" weeks of the season. in international years, they almost never stop playing if they're called up, since the tournaments are played in the summer.
