They'll eventually become more "regular" on the roster, but the way they have them now has done much better for them than a regular push would have. It's made them look legit so that when they start wrestling more, they're already seen as legit players. There would've been nothing to be gained out of having Reigns do a one-minute match against Ryder, or having Ambrose go over Santino in two minutes. Them as a unit that beats down top stars was the way to go. At this point, even if they do lose their next big match, it doesn't bury them at all cause everybody loses eventually. But for the time being, they've stood over everyone.
Why Nexus keeps getting brought up is beyond me. Anyone with any sense should've known that it wasn't gonna go on forever, and once they split up some of them dudes were gonna fall to the wayside. If you ask me, I'm surprised most of 'em are still around- I was sure Young, Slater, and Gabriel in particular were gonna be headed straight to future endeavors, Sheffield/Ryback wouldn't ever get over on his own, and Otunga didn't have a single redeeming quality. They all landed on their feet one way or another. nikkas just thought they were gonna be the new NWO or some shyt, and that wasn't the case.
