Skype with care

Anyone who uses Skype has consented to the company reading everything they write. The H's associates in Germany at heise Security have now discovered that the Microsoft subsidiary does in fact make use of this privilege in practice. Shortly after sending HTTPS URLs over the instant messaging service, those URLs receive an unannounced visit from Microsoft HQ in Redmond.

from last year:

Skype won't comment on whether it can now eavesdrop on conversations.
New surveillance laws being proposed in countries from the United States to Australia would force makers of online chat software to build in backdoors for wiretapping. For years, the popular video chat service Skype has resisted taking part in online surveillance—but that may have changed. And if it has, Skype’s not telling.

I gave their privacy policy and terms a read over back before the takeover. Should give it another read.

That said though, I don't think I'll stop using Skype.

I tried to download the chinese version (I wasnt on my vpn) and it set off LOADS of malware/spyware alarms, they monitor it. I guess for the U.S version, they obv modify it to be accepted with U.S agents so it wasnt set off when I dl'd the U.S version.

I sort of suspected it. If the chinese are monitoring what makes you think the U.S which has a waaaay more advanced web structure, isn't.

edit: that just gave me an idea. wonder what would happen if I dl'd a chinese virus protection program. bet it would flag loads of U.S govt spyware. :ohhh:

its funny to see how nonchalant people are about things like this.......

I think it's just with privacy concerns like this, people go into it figuring it's a trade-off and there's not much they can do about it since a majority of their friends uses it.

It'd probably take a bunch of people getting up in arms and a national story with a lot of backing to change it. Or lots of media coverage and pressure. Or everyone could use a Google hangout.

this is really a narcissist culture, that's why they sell you on FBI Inc,Instagram,Skype, etc to desensitize you to the fact that camera's&microphones are everywhere and one is already programmed to that fact and just give out everything willingly

i don't even trip off our generation anymore, most of them are content with being slaves/caricatures/sellouts,i worry about who this generation raises to accept this shyt even more numbly/apathetically then we do

but it might not even come to that,i think Rome will burn first

my only question is was Orwell&Huxley prophet visionaries?
