But I don't really know where to start. It just seems like there's so much shyt going on to really keep up with.

One minute we're talking about a bailout, and the next we're talking about a stimulus package :mindblown:

Basically, what are the main things I need to understand to get the most out if it? Links to info would be nice too

its tough if you don't have at least a background in politics and political theory.

go on wikipedia and learn about the basic functionings of congress, the judiciary, the executive office, voting procedures, law, economics, and political parties.

and then you need to read up on the domestic social issues of the day: national debt, tax reform, abortion laws, gun control, stem cell research, welfare, censorship in the media, etc..

and you might wanna brush up on foreign policy. learn the basic history and our policy on afghanistan, iran, iraq, syria, eqypt, india, china, russia, isreal, mexico, cuba, and lil about canada.

no :troll: if you spend a few months educating yourself on that you'll be aight :obama:

:shaq: You came to right place my friend :myman:

I'm going get you caught up serious style:

Welcome to the Coli Poli Science 101:

Course Objectives: Bring the average joe's up to speed on American Politics

Prerequisites: None

First of all, you must realize how complex politics is in America.

I'm not going to preach breh. But I'll set you up on a sequence of films that will answer your every query. These are all legit, researched sources.

For you to understand what's going now, you definitely have to understand what lead up to this situation.....

First film: George W Bush The Jesus Factor 2004

Film objective: Notice how religion helped influence the Presidency.....

2nd Film: Cheney's Law
Watch The Full Program Online (video) | Cheney's Law | FRONTLINE | PBS

Film Obective: Notice how laws were informally passed, without going through congress. Watch how members of the executive branch were left in the dark too about certain laws. Pay attention to the VP's philosophy, on how the government should be run.

Will conclude later..........

in addition, learn the basics in all major subjects taught in the majority of colleges. This will help you analyze and condense the overwhelming amount of information you will get by the rest of the members.

you trying to get into politics to keep up with the jones's ?

or you trying to evoke changes, what is your stand ? what is your ideals for improvement of living and safety for your community and america.

start with your community and move beyond, thats why Obama was the man he held chicago down. Thats why Guliani was the man he held new york down.

find your problems and good things about your area, and implement the right procedures to keep the pendulum swinging from good to better.

fck a bailout plan, you got to start on the ground. my n1gga.

A little bit of both

I'm tired of major political and social issues flying over my head because I've been too apathetic to research them. Personally, I feel that I've been doing a disservice to myself for not being informed of what's going on around me. It also makes me feel a bit ignorant.

My Pops is always telling me to vote because there are some things which can be changed, but many young people like myself are too busy with their heads buried other things to take advantage of it. It took a while, but now I'm ready to learn more about these things/

Don't even worry about it, it's a bunch of bullshyt... I wish I didn't care

Nah, bro you should try to be as informed as possible about what you government is doing.

That why you aren't caught guard, questioning why something like 9/11 happened.

There's some :mindblown: that the government does. And that's just off of the documented things that we (the public) knows about. I can't imagine the super top secret crap. :mindblown::ooh:

I'd say our HL brehs are painting it as more complex than it is.. let's be reality your average US Senator's rhetoric is not some deep philosophical or technical argument... I think you can engage with politics at a simple level and then follow the iceberg down into the depths

Ultimately this is what you want to watch:
Money, Power and Wall Street | FRONTLINE | PBS

But you have to work you way up this film. Look at like an upperlevel class. Certain prerequisites need to be met, before you dive right into the hardline facts. There's a lot controversial terminology, lingo, phrases and important people that you won't be able to piece together if you try to dissect it now.

Don't over think it, you learned the basics in high school. To get up to speed about what happened the past 100 years,

Get these three history books.

History Of The United States To 1877
History Of The United States Since 1877 <----- I would start here.
United States History: 1945 To The Present

This is how colleges and universities break up their history courses.
So you'll understand how everything from different eras relate.

at the very least read a different newspaper/blog a day to stay current about the world you live in. you dont necessarily have to a scholar to get into/learn about politics. The ppl who run the country arent.
