The Rotten Tomatoes forum that used to exist would constantly bash the hell out of Crash. I remember that they constantly had fun with the "falling down a flight of stairs cures racism" angle.

Crash was trash to me. Movie was so serious to the point that it felt like a parody at times.

I was confused too until the musical scenes were mentioned. That’s 2004. I remember how heavy handed the soundtrack was during its preachy moments.

I was rooting for Good Night And Good Luck that year, but I figured Brokeback Mountain had it in the bag. I was wrong on both counts. The look on Heath Ledger's face says it all.
