Injured my left patella tendon tryna dunk on someone in a pickup game. Tore a fukking piece of my knee cap off.

I can dunk easily but I was doing too much.

Now whatever they used to numb the pain is wearing off and these percocets ain't helping. This shyt hurts.. :damn:

And all I can think about is how much I'm bout to suffer in the gym. I can barely walk. Anybody else go thru this? How long am I out the game.

That is nuts. The patellar tendon is one of the thickest tendons in your body. What were you doing, a 360 degree spin move dunk?

I got ACL reconstruction and they took a graft from the patellar tendon, doctor said the remainder is still very strong. It took months of physical therapy for me to recover. Had I opted for a graft from a cadaver, I would have been back in action in less than a month. I didn't feel good about a cadaver donor part. Ask your doctor about recovery times.

About the knee pain, after my surgery, I thought I would try to wean myself off the pain killers faster than directed. I was prescribed percocet and prescription-strength ibuprofen. So on day three after surgery, instead of taking one dosage every 4 hours, I thought I'll just wait 6 hours. Four hours go by and I skip my next dosage. I'm feeling good, no pain. Hour 5 rolls by and the pain is noticeable but not bad. Five and a half hours roll by and the pain is throbbing. I take my next dosage. It takes time for the pain killer to work :sadbron: and the pain level is going up even more. 45 minutes later is when the pain medicine starts kicking in. An hour and a half later, pain management is back to normal. I think to myself, "That was the dumbest plan ever."

I tore off the middle piece but it was still connected to the knee cap so it broke off a piece of the knee cap. So really it's a patella avulsion. Doc said I won't be able to hoop for 6 months. But fukk that I just wanna know when I can walk without them crutches. I start therapy in 10 days.

This is my first major injury ever man. :(

Do your physical therapy man. Don't skimp out or half ass on it. That patella work ain't no joke, I had ACL reconstruction and my friend who is a physical therapist flat out talked me into using a cadaver graft because of how hard recovering from patella surgieries can be. It'll suck sitting on the sidelines basketball wise but do what your doctor says. If he says 6 months then focus on that return and use it to keep ur spirits up.

You'll become friends with the stationary bike, working on upper body stuff and lower body stabilizing muscles. Single leg type of stuff. It won't feel as long as you think if you focus on the goal and not the process

Now who else wanna fukk with Hollywood Court?
I stopped dunking a few months ago, I can still do it but it's just not worth it anymore, especially since I have a slight tear in my meniscus. I'm transitioning into the old man game nicely right now, shoulder to chest status, no more trying to be explosive.

Do your therapy, and when you come back to the game don't try to dunk on dudes anymore.

Hmm, for the ACL reconstruction, they cut out 1/3 of the patella tendon from the middle. Basically, you are going to go through the same thing as me. You start on two crutches. You get stronger and faster. Then, you wean yourself down to one crutch. Back to slow-ville. Then, you get stronger and faster. And then, you wean yourself down to no crutches. Back to slow-ville. Then, you get stronger and faster and are able to walk. It took months before I was able to jog and do light weight lifting with legs. Then, I went a couple more months before I was able to start medium to heavy weight lifting.
