So, long story short. I have accepted my first job offer (in my field of study, electrical engineering) and it is contingent on obtaining a Security Clearance.
I've never done this before and just wanted to know what i should expect?
I've read as long as you don't lie...your good.
Does it hurt I that i was arrested for missing court for a traffic ticket?

Depends on what clearance you're up for.
First off, it could be a DOD, DHS, DOE, etc. Depending on the agency, they have their own standards. Then it also depends on the level of the clearance. For example, for DOD, it's:
Confidential
Secret
Top Secret
TS SCI w/ Poly
Types of Polygraph tests are:
Counterintelligence
Lifestyle
Full Scope (both)
You're going to have to disclose drug usage, things arrested for (even if you weren't convicted), addresses going back 7-10 years...neighbors at each location (references), foreign national contact, foreign travel, credit check and immediate family members (along with their date of birth, birth city/state, address and phone number). If you have anything on your credit, start paying it now so you can show investigators you're trying to pay it off.
Probably most important, don't lie. You get caught lying and your chances of getting a successful adjudication is nil (you're can't be trustworthy and be a liar). Save a copy of the form for future reference.
