So a female acquaintance axed me to write her a recommendation letter...

And i'm not much of a writer... but she said her job (macy's) won't help her put her degree to use by jotting a recommendation letter so she can apply for a occupational therapy program (even tho she been with the retail giant for half a decade).


So she camed up to me and said, "Can you do me a favor and write me a recommendation letter?"


At first, i was like, "What the fukk for? You ain't even that tight to me, GIRL!!!" (She's my bosses sister in law, but i don't really know that much shiit aboot her and one time i wanted to get the hookup on some gear at her work for the 50 percent off during friends and family, she kinda ignored me).


On the flipside... I couldn't really say no cuz i felt like i was obligated to compose one for her, bitterness withstanding.



Due to the distance/proximity in our relationship (or lack thereof)... it wasn't easy for me to just say shiit; so i said fudge pack it and wrote one in 20 minutes.


Tell me what you think and if its gonna be serviceable enough and help her get into her prospective program, i mean, it's the holidays and it never hurts to help (altho i did want that Michael Koors watch for the half ).

Why she came to me as opposed to, say, her past instructors/superiors?


It's a responsibility, imo, to create a testimony about somebody that most people don't want the of the burden.


Most people are lazy, like in this case Macy's. .


Plus, she knows my cousin and he told her that i had a penchant for writing them cuz i wrote his ass one a couple years back (Thanks Jimmy).


If this means that she may one day have a career because of me... maybe god one day will repay me with more pourage.

First paragraph is unnecessary. Unrealistic and effusive praise, something like "very bright and attentive" is enough. The pararaph is cool.

It's actually worse for some distant person to write the letter for her cuz all they will think is "you had no one else willing or who could speak on your accomplishments, skills, etc?"

I think it is perfectly reasonable for you to say to her (if you didn't already email it) "I can't really speak to your skills enough even on a personal level to benefit you. I don't want you to waste your 1 of 2 recommendations on something that won't help you." Any level headed professional should respect the decline.

On the bright side the letter was funny so maybe they will think she will be good with bringing a smile to people's faces. You really are suppose to speak on specifics from your relationship to her capacities though
