ENGLEWOOD, NJ — A city woman was arrested Friday and charged with setting fire to her car and attempting to collect insurance money to pay for the damages, authorities said.
Katima McCullough, 32, was charged with arson and insurance fraud and her boyfriend, Armar Moore, 33, who was with her when the car was set on fire, was arrested on related charges, Det. Capt. Timothy Torell of the city police said in a statement. McCullough, who lives with Moore, told police who interviewed her last weekend that she was not aware that her car had caught fire, Torell said. However, she and Moore were both seen running from the scene of the fire on surveillance video recorded by cameras on nearby buildings, he said. Police and firefighters responded at 1 p.m. Sunday to a report of a car fire on Elmore Avenue, and they found a smoldering 2007 Nissan Murano with no one around it, Torell said. City firefighters quickly determined that the fire had been deliberately set, he said. Police found McCullough by tracing the license plate on her car, Torell said. She denied any knowledge of the fire, Torell said, and filed an insurance claim to be reimbursed for damage to the car. Detectives later learned that the car was about to be repossessed, he said. The Bergen County Prosecutor’s Office major crimes arson squad participated in the investigation with city police and firefighters, Torell said. McCullough was charged with second-degree arson and third-degree insurance fraud. Her bail was set at $35,000 cash. Moore was charged with third-degree hindering apprehension of another and fourth-degree failing to report a fire. His bail was set at $5,000. Both suspects were being held in a city lockup Friday night, Torell said. - See more at: http://www.northjersey.com/englewood/FIRESETTERS.html#sthash.Qxu7r7Hx.dpuf
