sly is a musical genius in every sense of the word; prolific singer, writer, producer, arranger and band leader
as a leader, sly lead the way and took his band to a level only he could ever imagine
sly stone wrote anthems and standards in music
sly is my favorite artist of all time

I think one of the reasons why Sly went kind of crazy is because he was so far ahead of his time and never got the props he was due.

Bobby Womack credits Sly w/putting him off drugs. He said that his talent compared to Sly's talent was nothing, and he was scared that he would lose the little talent he had if he kept fukking with drugs. (This is him talking, not me.) Bobby's autobio is great, and he has lots of Sly stories. One of them being that Sly slept in a corner...on his head.

What I love is the b-sides and unreleased cuts he made, like this one. This is so. Much. Fun. on drums.

U gotta check out Carlos Santana's 1st wife Debra's bio Space Between The Stars..She was with Sly in the beginning from when he was doin radio in the Bay Area to when he put the og Family Stone together, Woodstock, all the way up thru There's A Riot Goin On....As beautiful as dude was she basically said when he started fukkin with that wet/blow he became the type of nikka u didn't wanna be around when he went nuts ...it's also what broke up the band after that album
