I think the 80s are the closest, but the 90s blassics probably put the 90s over the top.

Movies were still consistently good but the 2000s is third at best.

90s for sure. There's something about watching a movie that took place before cell phones, before 9/11... it's like they still have a lot of magic.
I think it's hard to make crime thrillers and mystery movies today because they wouldn't be believable due to all of the advanced technology that the public has and all of the surveillance technology that the government has. That's why superhero movies took over for a minute there. That's the only plausible thing that humanity as a whole can't deal with yet. That and aliens.

as someone who grew up in the 90s watching movies from the 80s and 90s one thing sticks out
in movies/tv they made 1980s/early 90s nyc look like the cultural mecca. the coolest and scariest place on earth.
it makes me sad because ive never been, but what i do see now looks completely different. like that nyc is gone forever?
but im also talking out of my ass because ive never been there. so what do i know?

Honestly I’m not a movie head so I don’t go back and watch a lot of movies like that but when I do, it’s a lot of 2000’s that I do watch
01’ to 04’ were my high school years
