Is Barry Sanders the worst running back of all time?

I had this argument before Lebron won his ring last year. I've always been one to think that in team sports, rings are not the primary indicator of greatness. For example, to me Melo is hands down the best basketball player, even though he'll probably never win a chip. Knowing that he probably won't win, his talent doesn't change in my eyes.

Getting back to the point, in my argument my boy was just going on how Lebron can't be one of the greatest because he hasn't won anything. Then I said if that's the case then Barry Sanders has to be the worst RB then because he only won one playoff game let alone even getting close to a Superbowl, which of course he said wasn't the same because it's a team game :what:

My question is if rings carry so much weight (i.e. Lebron), then how can someone like Sanders be HoF and elite and he didn't win shyt?

Yeah really.

Rings w/ football pertain most to coaches & QB's.

QB's have more control over a football game than any other position, so the ring significance makes sense.

That's what I'm saying. I see basketball and football as the same (both team games, not like golf), that's why I compare the two

But they're not the same at all.

Considering a basketball player plays both offense and defense, there's only 10 players on the court not 22 and a ST unit.

Basketball and football are nothing alike, football is the ultimate team game, basketball can be more centered around 1 guy.

Should a nikka have said hockey instead of football? :why:

Y'all missing the point, I'm talking about superstars and winning, not the sport

ONE SUPERSTAR on a 45 man TEAM doesn't have the affect on a FOOTBALL TEAM compared to OTHER SPORTS....thus...making this DUMB

i understand what you're sayin but i don't even like that argument in football period. you're basically evaluating one person's legacy based on how up to 40 other players around him perform. if football players got the chance to affect the game from both sides of the ball it would be a different story.

In any sport, especially a team one, if you're just looking at championship titles you're arguing accomplishments, not skills.

Titles are certainly sometimes indicative of how an important player fell short, but there's too many other variables to pin the failings of a team on one individual each and every time, and then use that type of logic to quantify the "greatness" of some over others.

That shyt is just silly to me.

Rings don't tell the whole story... Not even close.

It's just a convenient way for trolls, stans, and ignorant clowns to go around trumpeting their favorite players and clowning on others.

Dan Marino is considered one of the greatest QBs of all time. No Ring
Barry Sanders is considered the greatest RB of all time. No Ring
Charles Barkley dominated the paint during the golden era of big men and he wasn't even 6'10. No Ring

It was the cool thing to say "Dirk is soft" and "Dirk is a choker" :skip: his entire career until he won a ring in 2011, playing the same exact brand of "soft" basketball he always had :childplease:

People are so stupid, they would rather judge a player's vast career by a microscopic sample size (playoff games) instead of using the other 95% of the player's career. In a TEAM sport, nonetheless. :why:

Rings mean quite a bit, but they definitely don't tell the whole story. If I'm talking sports with somebody, and the pull out the "KISS THE RINGZZZZ" argument, I pretty much stop talking to them and make a note to never take their opinion seriously ever again. And I'm a Dallas Cowboys fan. :heh::noah:

Troy Aikman has 3 rings, and is the only QB to ever win 3 in 4 years without cheating :stopitslime:, but I won't ever say that Troy Aikman is a better football player than say, Barry Sanders or Randy Moss.

Until of course you consider that there are still 2 other phases that they have nothing to do with. And of course there is the issue of being completely dependant on their offensive teammates to do their job. :ld:

As people have already pointed out, bball players have a much larger effect on the game than football players. For starters they play on both sides of the ball and there are fewer players on the other team for them to deal with.

An offensive NFL player cant win a single game if the defense isnt doing anything. You can have the greatest RB of all time but if the offensive line isnt blocking he wont do shyt.
