This is just from my experience, heres a few techniques to achieve certain things
low cut all frequencies below 20hz
side eq highs up a lot
bell eq at 30 and 60 hz with very narrow bandwidth (also can do 40 and 80 but you have to pair them)
You can sample samples with percussion by cutting off all frequencies under 150-200 HARD, as in a 24-48db cutoff. Then you can add warmth to the sample by pumping up the volume at around 200hz. Lastly, to make a mix sound less muddy, use a notch eq at 500hz, must muddyness and distortion comes in around that range.
Mid/side EQ is a technique that seperates amateurs from professionals, mess around with it and you can get some very cool and effective results
