Should people born in 97-2000 be considered gen z?

Things that 97-2000 kids grew up with: vhs tapes, DVD players, box tvs, cds, flip phones, MySpace, having to go to the video store to rent a movie, trl/106&Park etc

Things Gen z is typically associated with; smartphones, social media apps, streaming services like netflix, memes, online dating.

Two completely different upbringing yet both considered gen Z

Make it make sense

Gen Z is anyone born after 96. And for the most part the whole "Gen" thing isn't that serious; someone born in 1995 is more likely going to have more in common with someone born in 97 than they are with someone born in 1981.

Edit: Just realized I think we're saying the same thing :patrice:

Literally no difference in age. Unless they was poor, vhs and shyt was already going obsolete for 1997-2000 kids and box tvs were phasing out...

shyt sounds like what cacs be crying about with stolen valor. Y'all experienced the same shyt. All y'all nikkas is Gen Z:camby:

For Americans....

Feel like Gen Z vs Millenial basically comes down to remembering 9/11 and maybe Bush vs Gore + the recount.

Only the oldest Gen Z would have any recollection of it (maybe). Similar to the Cold War and Millenials vs Gen X. Only the oldest Millenials really remember all the Berlin Wall, USSR shyt. I barely remember it...first globe I had as a kid in preschool had USSR instead of Russia :russ: .....Carmen Sandiegoooooo

There's two types of Gen Z: Zennials aka Zillenials and Gen Z

Millennials and Zillenials have a lot in common since they grew up during the same phase of pop culture.

:yeshrug: I mean….. I was born in early 96 and we was still using VHS’s in my house up until like 06, 07 ish. Also had the Gameboy Color back in 2000. And I for sure remember George Bush declaring War on Terror, then invading Afghanistan not too long after, then of course Iraq, so do make with that what you will. I also remember Hurricane Katrina and the earthquake/tsunami that hit India back in 2004, as well as when they killed Saddam Hussein. We also had a mock election in my third grade class between Bush and Kerry. Also, I have a cousin who was born in 01 who rocks Jordans all the time but had no clue who Michael Jordan was til I told her. If the average gen-z person doesn’t know who Jordan, Saddam, Osama, or hell, even who Bush is without someone telling them, then nah, I don’t consider myself gen-z, respectfully.
