does this sound too rude?

first two questions are from the textbook. i wrote this for question #1...

The textbook is a rip-off. They charge $90 for a version that is only sheets of loose leaf (!) paper. The hardcover is even more (I was afraid to ask) and will be 100% worthless after this six week session, according to the bookstore. There is no option to rent this book, probably because it will be worthless in a couple weeks. The publisher should be ashamed for exploiting (usually broke) college students in their quest for excessive profits. This is ravenous greed at the expense of the student. Please stop asking questions from the book as it will only support this unethical business practice.

I don't think there is anything wrong with bringing it up (I state this as a phd student who teaches undergrads). However, I wouldn't rant about the textbook being a rip off, ravenous greed, or that the publisher should be ashamed. I would simply ask the professor if he/she could think of a less expensive alternative for future students.

He probably agrees with you and will appreciate your way of putting it.

Do it

But in all walks of life especially with self important people like professors who think they are elites in society I communicate with respect through email and you can be more professional and get the same point across. Professors arent a blue collar construction boss where you can talk about titties and cankles

The better question is: did you do the problems? If you didn't, he'll probably hit your paper/grade with the :childplease: and keep it moving.

Issues like this are best brought up in person, not in graded work. It might not even affect you this semester, but if you're doing this for future students, good on you.

Precisely. It's not like he/she will give you a bad grade because of the note, but if you are trying to convince someone to essentially change an important aspect of the course (it takes time to review new textbooks and ensure that they cover what you need, etc), I wouldn't make it a rant on my homework.

Half the time the Proff has written one of these useless recommended books. Don't rant @ him, gather more support.

This.

But to expell your energy, I'd write the strongly-worded version to your school administration (and cater it specifically for their viewing).

I'd also go into more detail on forming a coalition of students who are willing to complain to the local media regarding exploitation of students. No college president wants his/her university getting bad publicity, and the local media is your biggest weapon against this kind of fukkery.

nikka goin hit you with the :rudy: and keep it moving. Alot of these books are either:
A. written/cowritten by professors at your school
and/or
B. have a special edition made just for your school that was edited/approved by your professors(which makes it useless to sell elsewhere)

Either has been the case for a good majority of my books.

So before you go dissing the books make sure that book doesn't fall under any of the above. And do not write it within your written hw assignment, it is a completely separate issue from your hw altogether, therefore it she brought up separately.
